On the northeast coastline of the peninsula, the little village of Torba hides in a charming, well-protected bay and enjoys being only five kilometres away from the city of Bodrum. There is a long shoreline dotted with small and friendly pensions, romantic bars and isolated stretches for sunbathing and swimming. Just twenty years ago, there was only one shanty-like fish restaurant in this bay. The pines grow almost down to the coastline and the air is filled with the scent of fish and the sea. The small village is a quiet and pleasant settlement. Since the cove is sheltered, even in the windiest weather, the sea is smooth, shallow and clean.

Ferries make daily runs to Didim (ancient Didyma) across the unspoilt Gulf of Güllük. There are many treasures such as the remains of deserted villages and a Byzantine monastery dating from the 4th or 5th century.

Another definite must see is Gumusluk. One of the oldest settlements of the Peninsula, it is still possible to see the underwater remains of the old harbour wall that is connected to Tavsan (Rabbit) Island to the mainland. Enjoying sun-downers here amist the extraordinary green vegetation will be a life-long memory.

Shopping: Turkish style open markets are available

near the beach, where you can buy a selection of

hand made items which are produced locally. Also

available at the market is fresh food and drinks.

Expect to find a few stalls selling traditional Turkish

souvenirs. The nearest shopping centre is in Bodrum,

where local specialities are leather, Turkish carpets

and fake designer clothing mostly found in the narrow

streets and the Bazaar area. However, real designer

clothing can be found at the exclusive shops by the

Marina. Turkish delight and Apple tea can be widely

found throughout resort.

Activities: Torba's main beach is a sand and shingle compact

beach and to the west there is a small pebbly stretch with

sunbeds leading into beautifully clear waters. Most hotels

have private beaches with sunbeds and wooden swimming

platforms. There are tonnes of water-sports to be found

offered by hotels as well as private conpanies in the area,

most popular one are asiling on a traditional Turkish Gulet,

these locally built wooden yatch's can accommodate between

5-30 people and can be hired right on Torba harbour. The

crystal clear waters in Torba offers a variety of diving from

calm shallow reefs to caverns, walls, drop offs and tunnels.

You can expect to see various marine life ranging from moray

eels, octopus, tuna, jacks, barracuda's and lobster to

dolphins. If you are a outdoors kind of person you will enjoy

nothing more than waterskiing by the long curved beach.

The beach is ideal for watersports, also available for

entertainment is windsurfing, parasailing and dingy-hiring.

Local tours are available for a fantastic day around the

peninsula and visit one of the small fishing resorts such as

Gumusluk or Gundogan. The variety of landscapes is

amazing, and the views out to sea are spectacular.

Although Torba itself is quiet, it is only a short hop away

by taxi or local bus into the lively resorts of Bodrum and

Gümbet.

Restaurants: Small cafes dotted along the coast serve

excellent seafood and a selection of tasty Turkish dishes

and pastry's, there are oriental looking tents with comfy

sedir's (long cushioned couches) that serves local

specialty "Gozleme" for a quick and healthy lunch. In

terms of restaurants however, there is much more variety

in Bodrum, with its wide range of Turkish and international

restaurants.

Nightlife: Nightlife in Torba is a little more laidback

then that of the peninsulas other towns of Bodrum

and Gumbet. Torba is perfect for evening strolls

and a quiet evening drink in one of the many

seaside bars and restaurants. Bodrum town is

frenetic and varied, offering not only western-style

decadent clubs and discos, but also the chance to

sample partying Turkish style. Most of the bars in

Bodrum's mile-long 'Bar Street' offer dancing, floor

shows, live music and outdoor seating with a view of

the illuminated castle. For clubbers the main place to

be is Halikarnas, one of the biggest and swankiest

open-air clubs in the world, where the entrance charge

matches the volume of the music and brightness of

the laser lights. There are plenty of other clubs too,

even one on a catamaran that sets sail late at night

and takes the party out to sea until the dawn.
