Its skyline dominated by the fairy tale castle of St Peter, Bodrum is possibly the prettiest town in the Southern Aegean.

The castle embodies both history and beauty, but it is the small white houses in the little cobbled streets, the multitude of bars and restaurants, and the unending and lively nightlife that the town is most famous for. Lying on a peninsula surrounded by small pretty villages where you can wander the streets searching for those elusive bargains, or escape from the hustle and bustle of town life by meandering through olive groves, Bodrum offers the best that is Turkey. Use Bodrum as a base from which to discover ancient history, or embark on a relaxing cruise along the wild and rugged coastline. The whole area offers a wealth of magnificent beaches and an array of water sports from scuba-diving to para-gliding. Whatever you decide to do, this region offers the perfect place to do it.

Shopping:The combination of sunshine and shopping

makes the town of Bodrum an especially appealing

holiday destination. There are a number of Turkish

bazaars and colourful boutiques spread all around

central Bodrum, making this leading destination feel

like one giant market or mall.
Those shopping for exclusive fashion boutiques,

designer labels, quality leather sandals and exquisite

jewellery will find that the stores around the Karada

Marina are the place to go. The marina area of

Bodrum, close to the yacht club and the Neyzen Tevfik

Caddesi, is also home to a good election of shops

selling Turkish carpets and rugs. Various markets are

staged each week during Bodrum, such as the

regular farmer's markets each Tuesday, Friday and

Saturday, and the Turgutreis Market each Saturday.

Activities: Bodrum has so much of history practically

reaching out to you from every brick. Merely exploring

the town and its various parts could keep you busy.

The castle and the stone amphitheatre make for

interesting visits as does the Mausoleum of

Halicarnassus whose ruins are one of the Seven

Wonders of the Ancient World. Visiting the Hall of the

Carian Princess is another popular attraction. Exploring the

local area from Bodrum is easy with the minibus, or 'dolmus'

as it is locally called, taking you to all the nearby towns and

different parts of the peninsula. Other must-see places

include, Blue Cruise, Museum of Underwater Archeology,

Ortakent traditional towerhouse, Day trip by boat to

Karaada, Gumusluk ancient site.

some local Turkish fare, which there is plenty of!

You will also find the usual array of international

restaurants, pizzerias and fast food eateries.

The restaurants near the marina and the harbour

serve some excellent seafood.

Nightlife: The nightlife here is the liveliest in Turkey,

Bodrum boasts Halikarnas - claimed to be the biggest

open air night club in the world - together with a host

of competing establishments stretched along the

harbour front, including one that's based on an

enormous catamaran that sets sail at 3am and
